Question 1

What devices does it work with?

Accepted Answer

Wave Go is designed for USB-C devices like your phone or computer. It isn't made for direct use with professional cameras like a DSLR or mirrorless.

Question 2

Will it work with my phone?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as your phone has a USB-C port, which covers most models today. Older iPhones with a Lightning port aren't supported.

Question 3

Does it use Bluetooth?

Accepted Answer

Wave Go sends audio through a dedicated 2.4 GHz connection to its USB-C receiver, for better sound, lower latency, and longer battery life than you'd get over Bluetooth. Bluetooth is used only to connect the companion app for settings and updates.

Question 4

What's the wireless range?

Accepted Answer

Wave Go reaches up to 100 ft (30 m), far more than you need when recording to your phone. That's room to move freely in front of the camera without staying tied to your setup.

Question 5

How do I charge Wave Go?

Accepted Answer

On the go, your transmitter charges automatically whenever it’s docked in the Smart Handle. The carrying case also charges both at once: place the transmitter and handle in their slots, then connect the case to power with the included USB-C cable.

Question 6

Can I charge my phone while recording?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The receiver has a charge-through port, so you can connect a USB-C power source to help power your phone while recording. It delivers up to 5W, enough to charge your phone or slow battery drain, depending on how hard it’s working.

Question 7

Does it record audio onboard?

Accepted Answer

No. Wave Go sends audio straight to your phone or computer for simple recording. If a local backup is essential to your work, another system may be the better fit.

Question 8

What do the buttons do?

Accepted Answer

On the transmitter and Smart Handle: hold to power on or off, press to mute, and double-press to start recording on a connected phone. The receiver's button toggles noise cancellation.

Question 9

How do I wear the transmitter?

Accepted Answer

The transmitter attaches magnetically with one of two included mounts: a clip for shirts and collars, or a magnetic plate for thicker clothing like jackets. Its magnetic design also lets it attach to metal surfaces for creative placement.

Question 10

Can I record two people at once?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Wave Go comes with one transmitter, great for solo recording. For two-person setups, you can add a second. It pairs with the same receiver, so there's nothing extra to connect.

Question 11

Do I need to download the app?

Accepted Answer

No. Wave Go works right out of the box, adjusting your sound automatically with no setup needed. The free Wave Go app (iOS and Android) is there if you want to adjust gain and noise cancellation, check your battery, and more—but it's completely optional.

Question 12

When should I adjust gain manually?

Accepted Answer

Auto Gain works well for most mobile recording. But in noisier environments — air conditioning, traffic, a busy venue — it can make everything louder, not just your voice. If you notice this, try switching Auto Gain off in the Wave Go app and setting your gain manually. Start toward the lower end of the range and adjust from there.

Question 13

How do I use noise cancellation?

Accepted Answer

Pressing the button on your receiver toggles noise cancellation on and off. For more control, you can choose from three intensity levels in the Wave Go app. Low reduces background noise while keeping the room sounding natural, and works well in everyday situations. Medium offers more reduction in louder spaces. High is very effective but can make your voice sound more processed, so save it for very loud environments.

Question 14

Can I use Wave Go at my desk?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Plug the USB-C receiver into your computer and Wave Go becomes a lightweight desk mic for calls, podcasting, and more. We recommend also running Wave Link, Elgato's free mixing software, with Voice Focus on. This gives you natural, clear sound indoors by cutting room echo and background noise.
